The Cowal Highland Games is by far the biggest festival in Cowal and of course the biggest highland games in the world! Cowal also has arts and walking festivals, food festivals and community festivals all the year round.
The Cowal Gathering
The Cowal Highland Games attracts more than 3500 competitors, many of whom come from Scottish communities-in-exile such as British Columbia, Australia and New Zealand. Over the three days of the games which take place on the last weekend in August, around 23,000 people visit to enjoy the unique atmosphere. Apart from the competition which includes Highland Dancing, pipe bands, wrestling, heavy athletics, and solo piping, to watch, visitors can participate in the ceilidh tent, a children’s tent and a quality food fair from the best of local producers.
Arts, Walking, Food and Community Festivals all the year round
Cowalfest in October, is a walking festival which also celebrates arts and the Cowal communities. Open Studios is a fascinating way to view the art and crafts of Cowal as local artists throw open the doors of their homes and studios in September. The Loch Fyne Food Fair takes place in May and there are many smaller festivals taking place throughout the year which can be found within the Events Pages.
